Life Stages
From birth to adulthood having a facial difference will affect
every life stage. Typically, families and individuals reach
out for help and support at the start of their journey, after the
birth of their child or when they first acquire a facial difference.
In time, you learn to adjust to day to day trials. However, there
will be times where new issues or situations arise that motivate
you to search for answers or connect with others. These moments
tend to surface at key life stages such as birth, starting school,
or transitions periods from youth to adulthood.
At AboutFace we want you to know that you are not alone. There
have been many before you who have “paved the way” to
improve medical issues, treatment options, and public attitudes.
As individuals learn to cope, adjust and embrace their difference
or their child’s, they begin to share and reach out to others.
You can benefit from their experience.
Over the years, AboutFace has collected and written many stories
and articles to help individuals find comfort, meaning, encouragement
and empowerment as they move through their own journey. In this
section, you will find articles to address immediate or current
needs; we encourage you to call or write for more information as
you search for your own answers. |
