The Program
AboutFace has developed a teen retreat for teens with facial differences. At AboutFace, we understand that teens benefit from having a special place to make friends, share ideas and challenge physical boundaries.
Trailblazers is designed to enrich teens with a retreat experience while providing a safe environment where feelings, ideas and individuality are respected. Our goal is to encourage teens to impact others, in a positive way, so that they may witness first hand the valuable contribution they personally make to a team.
The program will challenge teens to:
- Test their physical abilities
- Gain trust in new people
- Create lifelong friendships
- Join in Adventure based activities
- Paticipate in team building
- Share experiences
Who Can Attend
Trailblazers is designed for AboutFace members ages 10 to 17 who
have a facial difference. We welcome all new participants and we
will be delighted to see the return of past participants. The program
is great for both the shy and the outgoing teen.
Guidance and Safety
Guidance and safety are key factors in you having a safe and exciting retreat experience. Our retreat is well equipped with staff from the Kinark Outdoor Centre, adult volunteers (who have a facial difference) from AboutFace and Our cabins will be designated girls and boys separately. Each cabin will have a maximum of five teens and a group leader of the same sex. The enthusiastic manner and positive attitude of our leaders will certainly make this a trip to remember!! Kinark offers a high quality “people focused” outdoor experience. Kinark staff is dedicated, professional and experienced. They will be instrumental in assisting us in facilitating our activities for the weekend retreat.
